~~Cold Laser Therapy (also know as Low Level Laser Therapy) was approved by the FDA in 2002
for treatment/reduction/elimination of pain. Though cold lasers have been used throughout Europe since the 1990’s, the first cold laser systems in the U.S. had lower power levels than today’s high-tech units and as such, did not deliver the same results that we see today.
The “physician grade” Cold Laser Therapy available at Murphy Family Chiropractic is a
non-invasive, painless, drug-free therapy that uses a low powered laser to deliver a precise dosage of visible red and infrared light energy deep into the cell. Cellular photoreceptors then absorb the low-level light and pass it into the mitochondria which in turn influences the formation of the cell’s energy and fuel source – ATP (adenosine triphosphate), at up to 10 times the normal rate. When ATP production and syntheses are enhanced, removal of cellular debris, cellular repair, cellular reproduction and functional ability results. This is in turn accelerates the healing process,
reduces inflammation and stabilizes nerve endings that decrease pain.
Cold Laser Therapy is the latest treatment option available for injuries and pain related conditions including;
– Adhesions – Fibromyalgia – Plantar Fasciitis
Arthritis – Golfer’s/Tennis Elbow – Sprains/Strains
Bursitis – Joint Injuries/Disorders – Radiculitis
Carpal Tunnel Syndrome – Migraine Headaches – Sinusitis
Cervical Neck Pain – Muscle Bruises – TMJ Disorders
Contusions – Peripheral Neuropathy – and many others!
Cold laser therapy produces results quickly. Though healing time varies by person and
condition, most acute conditions require only 3-4 treatments, chronic conditions take longer and generally require 6 – 12 treatments. For those with lifelong conditions, a 1-2 times/month maintenance schedule is recommended. Treatment times average approximately 15 minutes per session depending on the condition and number of areas being treated.
While cold laser therapy is an effective treatment option for reduction/elimination of pain, it’s important to understand that cold laser therapy does not address the cause of the pain. Regular chiropractic care to correct the underlying cause of the pain and maintain skeletal integrity is
highly recommended.
